G5 T1 L3: Properties of Matter

2
G5 T1 L3 Properties of Matter
Objective: I can tell how to identify an object by it's color and texture.
3
Do Now
1- Mass can be measured by ( Kg / Celsius/ml)
2-Volume can be measured by ( grams / Fahrenheit/ ml)
3- The amount of space an object takes up, this best describes (mass /volume)
4- Define Temperature.
4
Color:
Color is a physical property of a matter.
it's an easy property to observe by just looking at the substance.
5
Texture and Hardness
You can test the texture of a substance by only touching it(smooth/lumpy/grooved/spongy).
Hardness is another property( if it's hard it tends to keep its shape when you push it or try to break it).
6
Look at the picture and answer in your notebook.
1- Which two substances have white color and also are powders?
2- One of these two doesn't dissolve in water, so what substance is it?
3- We can use Degree Celsius and Fahrenheit in measuring (volume/weight/temperature)
7
G5 T2 Changes in Matter L1 States of Matter
Objective: I can describe the shape and volume of different matters
8
Do Now
1- Describe the particle movements in solids
2- We can measure temperature by using the (gram- Fahrenheit/milliliter).
3- Define volume
4- You can test the (texture/hardness) by only touching.
9
States of Matter
The difference between warm places and south pole clothing
10
States of Matter
Solid
Liquid
Gas
11
12
Solids
A matter with a definite shape and volume.
When you place a solid object like ice in a cup, it doesn't spread to cover the bottom of the cup.
13
Solids
An ice cube is solid and keeps its shape in the cup.
As it becomes warmer, the ice cube may melt, then it's no longer solid.
