The root word is environ, which means "to surround".

All the things that surround us make up an environment.

That includes non-living and living things.

Plants and animals use living and non-living to meet their needs.

Animals may help plants reproduce or make new plants.

Some animals carry fruits to other places.

This bat drinks the flower nectar, pollen rubs off on the bat.

A beetle carries pollen on its body.

Some animals spread pollen to plants.

Pollen may stick to an animal.

The dog spreads seeds that are inside the burrs on its fur.

How do you think the seeds got

on the dog’s fur? What might cause the seeds to drop off?

The dog probably touched a plant when walking by it, and the seeds stuck to its fur. They might drop off when the dog scratches itself or when its owner brushes it.​

A woodpecker moves acorns with its beak.

Seeds are inside the acorns.

It shows how energy moves from plants to animals.

The arrows show how plants and animals linked in a food chain.

Food chain starts with a sunlight and plants.

Followed by an animal that eats plant, then an animal that eats other animals.

The root of adaptation is adapt, which means “to fit or change.”

Plants have ways to survive where they live., and that is adaptation.

It helps living things survive in their environment.

It lives where it is dry.

Their adaption is the thick and waxy stems that help them store water.

Their adaptation is their big leaves.

These leaves help the rain forest plants get enough sunlight in the shady forest.
