Rock and Rock cycle
Grade v

2
Three types of rocks
Igneous rocks are formed when a volcano erupts.
Sedimentary rocks are formed when rock particles, sands, and other sediments gather and pile up.
Metamorphic rocks are formed when sedimentary and igneous rock undergo heat and pressure.
3
Rock Cycle
Molten rocks called magma, are spewed out to Earth's surface during volcanic eruption. It cools and hardens to form an igneous rock.
Rock is broken down by weathering agents, such as rain, wind, or heat. Even living organisms contribute to the weathering of rocks.
Glaciers, rivers, and streams carry pieces of rocks. These rock particles settle at the bottom of the ocean.
4
Rock cycle (cont..)
Sediments made of tiny particles of rocks get packed together to form a sedimentary rock.
Heat and pressure in Earth's crust change sedimentary and some igneous rocks to metamorphic rocks.
Intense heating turns metamorphic rocks into liquid rocks (magma). These rocks will burst through Earth's surface during volcanic eruption and the cycle will start over again.
