  • When an alkali is added to a acid, the acid is neutralised. The excess H+ ions react with OH - ions to produce water.


    H+(aq) +OH-(aq) -> H2O(l)


  • During this reaction the pH will change as the solution goes from an acid to a neutral solution to an alkali.

If you added an acid to an alkaline solution, the colour of the indicator would turn slowly more green during a neutralisation reaction.
