Civil rights are rights of all citizens to be treated equally under the law

Marshall believed that all citizens, not just some citizens, should have civil rights

Segregation means to separate

This meant whites and African Americans were separated in many places such as theatres, restaurants, and many other public places.

Whites and African Americans also had to attend separate schools

Marshall wanted to end segregation, especially in schools

African American Reverend Oliver Brown wanted his daughter, Linda Brown, to attend an all white school because it was closer to their house

The school leaders of the all white school would not allow Linda to attend because she was African American

Marshall was the Lawyer that fought this case

Lyndon Johnson appointed Marshall to the Supreme Court

Marshall was trying to convince the Supreme Court that school segregation was wrong

In 1954, all 9 Supreme Court justices voted to end segregation in schools

Brown vs. Board of Education ended segregation in public schools

Brown vs. Board of Education became Marshall's most famous victory

Marshall was a powerful voice for civil rights

Marshall served for 24 years on the court
