"De la" vs. "Del"
The preposition DE combines with the masculine article "el" to form "del"
This is because saying "de el" sounds awkward to a Spanish ear. Combine the two to get a cleaner-sounding del.
Por ejemplo: La mochila está debajo del escritorio
However, when "de" is followed by the feminine article "la", you can leave it alone.
Por ejemplo: La mochila está delante de la puérta.
