A participial phrase contains a participle and there accompanying words

A participial phrase can be used to modify a subject

it can be the participle by itself or a phrase

Example: Carrying their leaves, the ants made their way to the nest.

Carrying their leaves is telling you about the subject of ants.

The ants followed the line
