The Presidents Go to School

This famous U.S. President, pictured on the quarter, never had any formal schooling. He spent his late teenage years surveying and mapping frontier lands.

America's 2nd President, ____ _____, persuaded his father to let him stop going to school at age 12. BUT, he studied with a tutor and took the college entrance exams for Harvard at age 16.

This famous president loved to read as a kid, and insisted on learning to read even though his father thought it was a waste of time. Later, his aptitude for reading helped him study for (and pass) the exam to become a lawyer. From there, he used his legal expertise to start a political career.

This U.S. President & General started school at "subscription schools" where local parents pooled their money to hire a schoolmaster. Later he attended church schools and West Point Military Academy.

This U.S. President (the only one from Indiana) learned to read/write in a one-room schoolhouse which his father personally built. The only students at the school were the future president and his 9 brothers and sisters.

This famous U.S. President (elected 4 times) was homeschooled through middle school, then attended the nation's most expensive and prestigious private high school... and then went to 2 of the most prestigious colleges in the United States (Harvard & Columbia)

This man, the president at the beginning of the Cold War, was the last president to never attend college. But, he did graduate from High School in 1901, at a time when only about 10% of Americans managed to graduate from High School.
