Definition - unequal treatment based on a person’s race, gender, religion, place of birth, or other arbitrary characteristic

Example - A company not paying minority workers the same wage as white workers

Non-Example: A minority student getting suspended for punching somebody in the face

Definition - easily seen or understood

Example - It's evident after losing every race that Jimmy is slow.

Non-Example - Disappear, hide

Definition - a slave rebellion led by Nat Turner that took place in Virginia in 1831

Example - Rebellion led by Nat Turner

Non-Example - Any other slave rebellion.

Definition - the feeling of being weighed down or held back by severe and unfair force

Example - Slavery in the US before the Civil War.

Non-Example - A student getting D's on every test because they don't do their work.

Definition - not active

Example - An athlete who does not hustle, a person who never gets exercise

Non-Example: Someone who is always fighting.

Definition - the belief that one race is superior to another

Example - Andrew Jackson's views on the American Indians.

Definition - someone who works to make change in order to bring about improvement, end abuses, or correct injustice

Example - Frederick Douglass and other abolitionists

Definition - the social separation of groups of people, especially by race

Non-Example - Different races serving in the army together

Definition - understanding or agreeing with the feelings or situation of another person

Example - Listening to your friends problems when they have a bad day

Definition - a secret network of free blacks and whites who helped thousands of slaves escape to free states and Canada
