English- Conjunctions

Conjunctions are words that link other words, phrases, or clauses together. eg. but, and, yet, or, because, nor, although, since, unless, while, where, etc.  Examples: She bought a shirt and a book.

You can easily remember all the coordinating

conjunctions by using the acronym

FANBOYS

F- For

A- And

N- Nor

B- But

O- Or

Y- Yet

S- So

Conjunctions are words that link together clauses. There are two types of conjunctions.

Coordinating conjunctions are used as a word that connects two independent clauses,

e.g.,

The sun was scorching. We wore our hats.

The sun was scorching so we wore our hats.

A subordinating conjunction connects a main clause and a subordinate clause.

A subordinate clause is a dependant on the main clause because it doesn’t make sense on its own.

main clause

He managed to reach the summit of the mountain.

although suffering from frostbite.

the subordinate clause beginning with the subordinating conjunction ‘although’
