How a building is made, depends on its purpose. For example, homes and schools are arranged in different ways for how people will use them.
To tell about a topic, author's must decide the best way to build ideas together. Like builders, authors arrange words in different ways for different purposes. We call these text structures.

As a reader, we have to look at how sentences and paragraphs are connected. These connections are the text structures. If we are able to describe these connections then we will better understand the text.
