How a building is made, depends on its purpose. For example, homes and schools are arranged in different ways for how people will use them.

To tell about a topic, author's must decide the best way to build ideas together. Like builders, authors arrange words in different ways for different purposes. We call these text structures.

As a reader, we have to look at how sentences and paragraphs are connected. These connections are the text structures. If we are able to describe these connections then we will better understand the text.

Milkweed is important. It is what the caterpillar will spend its days eating.

Monarch butterflies are popular amongst bug enthusiast for their beautiful bright colors. Usually the moth is thought of as dark and dull. Most people don't even take notice when they fly by.

As the caterpillar eats, it grows! But its skin stays the same size. It pushes, tugs, and wiggles its way out of the too small skin. It attaches itself to a stem or a leaf and hangs upside down.
