1.The captain was in charge of the ship and had his own cabin.

3. The boatswain or bo’sun was in charge of the sails and rigging (ropes). He would call the crew to duty with a whistle.

4. Sailors worked the sails with ropes. They had to know all the ropes and the knots to tie them up with.
