Activity 4.3: Missing Numbers

Access your number sense while working on the next problems.

For example, if you were to subtract 1,000-256, you might have to write it out so that you can borrow.

BUT you could also recognize that 1,000=999+1.

First, find 999-256...you can do that in your head without writing anything down.

999-256=743

Then add 1 to get back to the original 1,000.

1,000-256=999+1-256=999-256+1

1,000-256=744
