Microsoft Word is a word processing application that allows you to create a variety of documents, including letters, resumes, and more.

When you open Word for the first time, the Start Screen will appear. From here, you'll be able to create a new document, choose a template, and access your recently edited documents. Action Required: From the Start Screen, locate and select Blank document to access the Word interface. In other words, create a blank document in Word.

Searching keywords is the most common method readers can use to locate specific information in a document. It requires no setup by the author of the document. The reader simply begins a search using the Find & Select feature on the Home tab.

Inserting Hyperlinks is a way to build navigation for your readers into your documents. You can create hyperlinks to either places within your document or to external sources outside your document, such as the URL of a website. Each hyperlink goes to one place, but you can have as many hyperlinks as needed. You can also use hyperlinks to allow readers to send email messages to a preconfigured email address. To hyperlink an element on a Word page, click the Hyperlinks feature in the Links group on the Insert tab.

Another navigation tool provided in Word is the Select feature. Select is located in the Editing group on the Home tab. This feature will let you locate specific objects in a document, or you can find text with similar formatting. Another useful tool in the Select menu is the Selection Pane, which lists all elements on a page. The Selection Pane is very useful when you have many objects on a page, or layered objects, and you want to select a specific one for editing.
