7th 5 Topic Review Inequalities

Solve inequalities the same way you would equations.

EXCEPT: When you multiply or divide by a negative, you must switch the direction of the inequality.

Agreed 5 < 6

Multiply both sides by -1

-1(5) -1(6)

-5 > -6

Distribute:  $3x-15\ge18$  

Add 15 to both sides:  $3x\ge33$  

Divide both sides by 3:  $x\ge11$  

Distribute the -3 to all terms in the parentheses:  $-3x-15<27$  

Add 15 to both sides:  $-3x\ <\ 42$  

Divide both sides by -3 and switch the direction of the inequality:  $x>-14$
