Plural v. Singular

Meta - Today, I will be able to describe the difference between plural subject pronouns (ustedes) and singular subject pronouns in Spanish (tú, usted).

¿Por qué? - So that I can use the correct subject pronoun in a given situation.

¡Éxito! - I am successful when I provide examples from my own life of when to use tú, usted, and ustedes.

Singular refers to a single noun, such as one penguin

Plural refers to more than one noun (like plenty of something) and describes a group of two or more of something

Due to the limited ability of the English subject pronoun "you", we are forced to add a qualifier after it to describe plural subject pronouns to whom we are directly speaking (second person).

For example: You are my best friend.

You all are my best friends. OR You are all my best friends.

A group of my closest friends will be replaced with ustedes

A group of wild dogs I found will be replaced with ustedes

A group of my bosses will be replaced with ustedes

My two friends together will be replaced with ustedes

All of the people at the old folks' home will be replaced with ustedes

All of the doctors in one room will be replaced with ustedes

All of the little kids you see playing at the park will be replaced with ustedes

Talking to all of your family will be replaced with ustedes

Your teachers as a group will be replaced with ustedes
