Adjectives are words that modify a noun or pronoun.

Possessive adjectives indicate a relationship between a person/thing and the noun being modified.

In English, these words are: my, your, his, her, its, our, their

ich -> mein

du -> dein

er -> sein

sie -> ihr

es -> sein

wir -> unser

ihr -> euer

Sie -> Ihr

sie -> ihr

Nouns are people, places, things, and ideas.

Pronouns can stand in the place of nouns.

Adjectives modify nouns.

German nouns have "grammatical gender."

The three genders in German are masculine (der-words), feminine (die-words), and neuter (das-words).

Possessive adjectives in German get endings based on the gender, number, and case of the noun they modify.

For example, take this sentence:

Mein Vater ist cool.

"Vater" is a masculine noun (der-word), singular, and is the subject of the sentence (nominative case).

Because of that, "mein" gets no ending

The endings for possessive adjectives are the same as for the indefinite articles

The indefinite articles are ein/eine/einen/etc.
