What we need to know about earthquakes
Earthquakes often happen on or near the earth's tectonic plates.
Earthquakes can be very dangerous, but others might just be a little rumble.
Earthquakes can help to cause volcanoes and tsunamis.
Earthquakes have no warning like hurricanes do.
Animals can sense when earthquakes are about to happen because they can feel the vibrations at from inside of the earth.

The Great Chile earthquake (2010)
This was a very severe earthquake that occurred on February 27, 2010.
It was off the coast of south-central Chile. It caused widespread damage on land.
The earthquake caused a tsunami that devastated some coastal areas of the country.
Together, the earthquake and tsunami were responsible for more than 500 deaths.
