EXPONENT RULES REVIEW
Product Rule: xa⋅xb=xa+b example: x3⋅x7=x3+7=x10
Power Rule: (xa)b=xab example: (y6)2=y6⋅2=y12
Quotient Rule: xbxa=xa−b example: b3b5=b5−3=b2
Negative Exponent Rule: x−a=xa1 example: p−2=p21
Zero Exponent Rule: x0=1 (x=0) example: (4x3)0=1
4
When ADDING OR SUBTRACTING monomials, COMBINE LIKE TERMS
Example: 2x4+3x4=5x4
5
Polynomials
The sum or difference of many monomials.
The highest exponent in the polynomials is the degree
Standard Form: Exponents are in descending order
