What is Article?
ARTICLE A ,AN & THE
Dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, sering kali ditemukan articles atau kata sandang di dalam sebuah kalimat bahasa
Inggris. Articles sendiri dibedakan menjadi dua yaitu definite articles dan indefinite articles.
Definite articles adalah kata sandang tertentu yang berupa kata sandang ‘the’ dan digunakan pada bentuk-bentuk kata tertentu saja.
Sedangkan indefinite articles adalah memakai kata sandang ‘a’ dan ‘an’ yang memiliki arti sebuah.

DEFINITE ARTICLES (THE)
Digunakan untuk kata benda yang telah disebut pada kalimat sebelumnya.
Contoh:
I have a book. The book is very interesting.
(Saya punya sebuah buku (belum pernah disebutkan sebelumnya). Buku itu sangat menarik (buku yang dibahas di kalimat sebelumnya))
Digunakan untuk menunjukan kitab suci, tempat, laut atau wilayah.
Contoh:
The Sumatra island, The Qur’an, etc.

DEFINITE ARTICLES (THE)
Digunakan untuk kata yang menunjukan bangsa atau orang secara kolektif.
Contoh:
The Javanese.
Digunakan dalam bentuk superlative dan ordinal numbers.
Contoh:
The longest, The best, The biggest
Digunakan untuk nama keluarga dalam bentuk jamak yang berarti family.
Contoh:
The Cullen, The SImpson
Digunakan untuk nama benda yang hanya satu-satunya.
Contoh:
The sun, The moon, The world, etc.

INDEFINITE ARTICLES (A & AN)
Indefinite articles dikelompokan dalam article ‘a’ dan ‘an’. Kata sandang ‘a’ digunakan untuk benda tunggal yang dimulai dengan bunyi konsonan (b,c,d,f,g,h, dst) sedangkan ‘an’ digunakan untuk kata-kata benda yang diawali dengan bunyi vokal (a,i,u,e,o).

Digunakan saat di depan nama pangkat atau jabatan.
Contoh:
a sailor.
Digunakan di depan nama kebangsaan.
Contoh:
an American.
Digunakan di depan nama agama.
Contoh:
a Moslem.

Digunakan untuk kata benda tunggal yang dapat dihitung.
Contoh:
We have a pen.
Digunakan sebelum kata benda tunggal yang digunakan sebagai contoh dari sebuah kelompok benda.
Contoh:
an announcer must be able show teater of mind.
Digunakan dalam penulisan jumlah tertentu.
Contoh:
a couple of parents.

Digunakan untuk menyatakan harga satuan tertentu.
Contoh:

Digunakan dalam kalimat seru.
Contoh:
