​In our nuclear chemistry unit we focused on the nucleus of the atom.

Remember the nucleus is made up of the subatomic particles; the protons and neutrons.

​In this unit our focus is placed on the final subatomic particle; the electron.

​One of the most interesting parts of this unit is how much mystery still surrounds electrons and their behavior.

Many scientific theories exist, but this is still a highly studied concept with new breakthroughs occurring each year.

In this unit we are going to be looking at some of the basic structural arrangement we understand about electrons and it's effects atomic behavior.

​We will also look at many ways this is modeled or written.

​Bohr's Model

​Bohr's model gives us great insight to the behavior of atoms.

​It helps to explain phenomenon exhibited by atoms including atomic spectral lines.

​In the end though a Bohr's model has been adapted to a more modern theory named the quantum mechanical model of an atom.

​We will look at this model further next class period.
