An Overview of Telling Time:

• Just like in English, we always start with the HOUR.

• In order to show minutes, use "y"

• Example: It's 4:05 = Son las cuatro y cinco

REMEMBER!

• The SHORTER of the two hands on a clock is for the HOUR!

• The LONGER hand is for the MINUTES!

For us, "PAST" = "y" and again, it's used to show MINUTES

What do we do with the 15-minute blocks of time?

• : 15 = y cuarto (think "quarter after")

• : 30 = y media (think "middle of the hour")

What is the difference between the two questions on our vocabulary list?

• ¿Qué hora es? = What time is it CURRENTLY?

• ¿A qué hora es...? = What time is the...?

How do we show AM & PM?

• AM = de la mañana

• PM = de la tarde/de la noche

NOON = Es mediodía.

Midnight (12:00am) = Es medianoche.
