Gram Panchayat

Gram Panchayat is a basic village governing institute in Indian villages. It is a democratic structure at the grass-roots level in India. It is a political institute. It acts as cabinet of the village. The gram-Sabha work as the general body of Gram Panchayat.

The gram panchayat is the key local government institution responsible for fulfilment of the community's aspirins with respect to development of the village.

In India, the system of governance in which gram panchayats are the basic units of local administration. The system has three levels: Gram Panchayat (village level), Mandal Parishad or Block Samiti or Panchayat Samiti (block level), and Zila Parishad (district level).

The control and administration of the Gram Panchayat Fund; The imposition, assessment, and collection of the taxes, rates or fees; The maintenance and control of Dafadars and Chowkidars; Administration of Nyaya Panchayat, etc.
