Stars, Galaxies, and Universes Vocabulary

The universe exploded (big bang) and then started rapidly expanding (spreading out) and created the universe we know today

When light from distant objects in the universe shifts (moves) to the red end of the visible specturm, the object is moving away from us

If a galaxy is farther away from us, then it is moving at a greater speed.

"Proto" means young, therefor a protostar is a star that is young, and therefor is not very hot. Because of this, fusion can not take place so it does not expand as rapidly as older stars.
