Task 2: Grammar
Read the following information on the next set of slides and make notes as you read this. You'll need the information to help you with the questions you'll find in between the slides.
18
Grammar: Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe a noun e.g. a red pencil.
In English, adjectives go before the noun they describe.
In French, most adjectives go after the noun they describe.
a red pencil= un crayon rouge
a blue phone= un portable bleu
a green planner= un agenda vert
19
Multiple Choice

25
Grammar: Adjectives
a red pencil= un crayon rouge
a blue phone= un portable bleu
Have you noticed all of the examples above are masculine? They start with un which shows that they are masculine.
What if the noun is feminine? It's feminine if it starts with une
a blue pencil case= une trousse bleue
I've added an e to the adjective to make it agree.
If the noun is feminine, you need to make the adjective agree with the noun it is describing. This means possibly changing the adjective to a different spelling to make sure it agrees. Take a look at the next slide!
26
Grammar: Adjectives
Copy down the grid for later reference.
1st section: all of these already end in an e in the masculine for so, it doesn't change in the feminine form.
2nd section: all of these add an e in the feminine form.
3rd section: these add a different combination of letters. This is because just adding an e wouldn't work when it is said out loud.
4th section: like the 1st section, these don't change. It is because the colour is actually a noun itself (orange is...well, an orange! marron is the word for a chestnut)
27
Multiple Choice
une before a noun means that it is...
masculine
feminine
plural
28
Multiple Choice
If my noun is feminine, I have to make the adjective

30

Adjective AFTER the noun.
