LARGE INTESTINE
start from the cecum & ended at the rectum.
it absorbs water and electrolytes to form feces.

CECUM = where small intestine enter at ileocecal junction & have appendix.
ASCENDING COLON = retroperitoneal organ (locate more posteriorly). Right side of abdomen. Meets the liver, it turns 90 degrees to move horizontally. This turn is known as the hepatic flexure.

TRANSVERSE COLON = intraperitoneal organ (locate more anteriorly), center & upper part abdomen, extends to the spleen, where it turns another 90 degrees to point down. This turn is known as splenic flexure.
DESCENDING COLON = retroperitoneal organ (locate more posteriorly). Left side of abdomen. After the splenic flexure, the colon moves down towards the pelvis.

SIGMOID COLON = Intraperitoneal organ (locate more anteriorly). 40 cm. S-shape.
In about 40 cm long.
Located at left lower quadrant.
When the colon begins to turn medially, it becomes the sigmoid colon. Ended at the level of S3 and continue to rectum.
S-shape structure.
