NOUN PHRASES

A noun phrase consists of a noun + other information, which can include phrases with prepositions, -ing forms, infinitives and clauses.

Ex. I preferred the pants in the first store we went to.

We saw the woman watching us as we locked our door.

We have tickets to go to a Shakira concert with Andy.

Information before a noun can include determiners, articles, adjectives and adverbs.

Ex. Those earrings are really beautiful.

A river runs through the center of town.

That beautifully written book brought tears to my eyes.

When we use more that 1 adjective before a noun, opinion wwords usually come before factual words, and we use the following order for other adjectives:

SIZE, SHAPE, AGE, COLOR, ORIGING ,MATERIAL, PURPOSE.

Delicious freshly baked chocolate brownies are my weakness!!

It´s a big square metal box for keeping coins in.

The possessive ´s and of express the idea of " having" that links two nouns. We usually use ´s for people and a phrase with of for things, abstract nouns and long phrases.

I never actally saw his parent´s house.

She´s the daughter of the woman who was arrested fot he robbery.

With plural nouns the apostrophe follows the s, but with irregular plurals we use ´s

The rugby players´ shorts were filthy.

People´s opinions matter.

Noun + noun compounds usually have a more specific meaning that the two separate nouns. The first nouns is always singular and describes the second noun.

I´d like to stop at the guitar store.

He watches all the comedy shows.
