Ancient Infrastructure

You have moved from the city to a valley to start a farm. Unfortunately, the closest supply of water is an underground spring high on a hill about a mile from your farm. You cannot move beside the spring because when there is a storm, it floods. How would you get the water from the spring to your crops without having to walk up every day?

You live in a small town of about fifty people. You know there are other small towns in the area but it is very difficult to get to them. You have to travel through other people’s property and the woods and along a river to get to them. You want to move to another town but it is very difficult to get all of your belongings there. What would make the move easier?

You live near a river and want to begin growing crops. The only problem is your region experiences dry and rainy seasons making farming difficult. It is time consuming to carry water for irrigation during the dry season, and when the river floods in the rainy season it threatens to wipe out your entire field. You need a solution to control the amount of water your field receives. What will you do?

You live in a large city with buildings that are very close together. Unfortunately, because there is no way to dispose of ‘waste,’ the alleys between the buildings are dirty and people are starting to get sick. When people come to your city, they complain about the smell and do not stay for health reasons. Someone suggests there should be people who clean the streets but that is only a temporary solution. What could be done in the city to easily get rid of the personal waste in the homes and keep the city clean?

Your village lives near a valley that, during the rainy season, experiences flooding making it impossible to cross. This flooding can last for months, meaning you cannot leave your village for resources that are needed at the time or to trade with neighboring villages. Your village struggles to provide its members with enough to survive while the flooding lasts, and unless something is done, your village will never and grow and may eventually disappear due to lack of resources. How could you help your village during this period in getting the resources you need?
