Understanding Addition

Addition is when you add 2 or more numbers to find the sum or total of those numbers

Example:

When it comes to word problems you have to be able to understand keywords, in order to know what kind of word problem it is

Some commonly used words used for addition problems are: Add, Sum, Plus, Increase, Total, In All, More

Lucy went to the grocery store. She brought 15 packs of cookies and 16 packs of noodles. How many packs of grocery did she buy in all?

So the first thing you would have to do is read the problem in order to find what numbers you are using and to figure out what kind of Math problem it is.

So we know that Lucy brought 15 packs of cookies and 16 packs of noodles

From reading the question it ask "How many packs of grocery did she buy in all?" Since it asks in all we would know that this is an addition problem

Next we would have to use the information in order to turn this into a math equation

So by using the information in the word problem. The fact that Lucy brought 15 packs of cookies and 16 packs of noodles. Also knowing that we have to figure out how much she brought in all.

So the next step would be to solve the Equation in order to find the Sum or Total of these numbers

So now that we have are answer there is still one final step we must do

Since this is a Word Problem our answer must be in the form of a sentence. So our question was "Lucy went to the grocery store. She brought 15 packs of cookies and 16 packs of noodles. How many packs of grocery did she buy in all?"

You can easily use the question in order to write your sentence. Since the question asks "how many packs of grocery did she buy in all?"

You would write your answer as: "Lucy brought 31 packs of grocery in all."
