General Format

Rust $Fe\ +O_2\rightarrow Fe_2O$  

Decomposition=breaking down

General Format

Hydrogen Peroxide:  $2H_2O_2\rightarrow2H_2O+O_2$  

One element is replaced in a compound

 $Example:\ 2K+2H_2O\rightarrow2KOH+H_2$  

Only works if one element is more reactive than the other (use activity series on page 361 in online textbook)

Two elements switch in both compounds

 $Example:\ HCl+NaOH\rightarrow H_2O+NaCl$  

Neutralization (water as a product), precipitation (solubility rules on page 372 in online textbook), and gas formation

Water and Carbon dioxide are the only prodiucts formed!

 $Example:\ CH_4+2O_2\rightarrow2H_2O+CO_2$
