The Coronotion of Queen Elizabeth II

as monarch of the United Kingdom as carried out on June 2, 1953. Elizabeth ascended to the throne at the age of 25, after her death her father, King George VI.

When she was born in 1926 no-one expected Princess Elizabeth to become Queen.

Edward gave up the throne so her father became King. After his death, as his eldest child. She became Queen.

The Queen's coronation was held at Westminster Abbey in Parliament Square.

The church opened its doors to approximately 8,000 guests from across the Commonwealth.

Nearly 27 million viewers watched it on television and more than 11 million listened to the radio broadcast. More than 2000 journalists and 500 photographers from 91 countries were accredited.

The Queen's Coronation dress, designed by British Fashion designer Norman Hartnell, was made of white satins and embroidered with the emblems of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in gold and silver thread. 

It's an expression of one’s patriotism and hope for the long life of the monarch.

Elizabeth settled into her role as queen, working with PM Winston Churchill, weathering a foreign affairs disaster in the Suez Crisis of 1956 and making numerous state trips abroad.
