Learning competencies

1. Using the be verbs ( am, is, are, was, were) in a

sentence

2. Use simple verbs (past, present, future)

IS is the form of verb to be that is used for singular

nouns.

ARE is the form of verb to be used for plural nouns.

AM is used with the pronoun I.

WAS can be used only with the first and third

person singular I, It, He and She.

WERE can be used with the rest of the pronouns

You, We, They.

Examples.

1. Mary is busy with her lessons.

2. The children are playing in the yard.

3. I am cleaning my bedroom.

4. I was excited for my new gadget.

5. Mother and father were busy gardening.

Using the past, present and future tense in simple

sentences.

Verb Tenses- tell us when the action is taking place.

SIMPLE PAST TENSE- an action that already took

place. We add d or ed to regular verb.

Examples:

1. Maria watched a movie after dinner.

2. The parents filed their documents in the

municipal hall yesterday.

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE- an action that is happening

right now. We add s or es to a singular verb and

singular noun.

Examples. (singular sentences)

1. My brother drinks plenty of water.

2. The girl catches butterflies in the garden.

3. Father fixes the fence.

4. The baby kisses her mother.

5. The bee buzzes as it flies around its hive.

Examples. (plural sentences)

1. The policemen march as they go along the

parade.

2. The clowns laugh very loud.

FUTURE TENSE- an action that is going to happen.

We use the word will + action word show future

time.

Example.

1. The janitor will clean the surrounding on

Saturday.

2. The garbage collector will pick up the garbage

tomorrow night.

3. The soldiers will attack the barracks of the NPA

tonight.

singular noun. We do not add s to the verb if the

noun is plural. We add es to the verd that ends in ch, sh, s, x, or z in singular word.

FUTURE TENSE- an action that is going to happen. We use the word will + action word show future

time.
