Verbs Have Numbers

• Number refers to how many people are completing the action

• For singular verbs, only one person is completing the action

• For plural verbs, more than one person is completing the action

  
  

Verbs Have Persons

• There are three verbal persons

• First person pronouns are I (ego) and we (nos)

• Second person pronouns are you (tu) and y'all (vos)

• Third person pronouns are he/she/it (is/ea/id) and they (ei/eae/ea). Third person verbs can also employ non-pronoun subjects like regina or taurus

Verbs Have Tenses

• So far we have learned two tenses: present and imperfect

• Latin uses the present tense to talk about things happening now (hodie) and the imperfect tense to talk about things ongoing in the past (heri)
  

Imperfect Tense Verbs

• The imperfect tense is one of Latin's past tenses

• To show the past tense, drop the -re off of the infinitive, add -ba- and then add endings

• Latin has an irregular verb, esse, that follows its own patterns. It is best to memorize its irregular forms

Negative Commands

• Commands can either be positive (Verb!) or negative (Don't verb!)

• To make a negative of any Latin verb, the verb noli (or nolite for plural) is used, plus the infinitive (2nd principal part) of whatever verb is being commanded NOT to do.
