Kerajaan Kutai terletak di Muara Kaman di hulu Sungai Mahakam, Kalimantan Timur. Kerajaan Kutai merupakan kerajaan Hindu pertama di Indonesia. Dibuktikan dengan ditemukannya 7 buah prasasti berbentuk Yupa berangka tahun 400-an. Ditulis dalam huruf Pallawa, berbahasa Sansekerta.

Kudungga ,adalah raja pertama Kerajaan Kutai.
Raja Aswwarman dikenal sebagai pendiri dari Kerajaan Kutai sehingga mendapat gelar Wangsakerta dengan arti pembentuk keluarga.
Raja Mulawarman , merupakan sosok raja terbesar yang berpengaruh di Kerajaan Kutai dan merupakan cucu dari Kudungga serta anak Aswawarman. Ia bahkan juga dijadikan sebagai ikon dari Kerajaan Kutai.
