Orang yang mengeluarkan zakat disebut muzakki sedangkan orang yang berhak menerima zakat disebut mustahik.

Jumlah zakat yang dikeluarkan adalah 2,5% untuk zakat maal, sedangkan zakat fitrah sebanyak 2,5 Kg atau 3,5 liter makanan pokok

Mustahik berjumlah delapan, atau disebut delapan asnab atau tingkatan, yaitu :

  • Fakir, yaitu orang yang tidak memiliki harta dan mata pencaharian

  • Miskin, yaitu orang yang mempunyai harta atau pekerjaan tetapi tidak mencukupi kebutuhannya sehari-hari
