Where do we get the quadratic formula?
4a(ax2+bx+c)=0
4a2x2+4abx+4ac=0
4a2x2+4abx =−4ac
4a2x2+4abx+b2=b2−4ac
(2ax+b)2=b2−4ac
2ax+b=±b2−4ac
2ax=−b±b2−4ac
x=2a−b±b2−4ac

How do we use it?
First, the equation must be in standard form,
ax2+bx+c=0Next, identify a, b, and c. Substitute them into the formula.
Finally, simplify!

Example: x2+2x −63=0
x=2(1)−2±(2)2−4(1)(−63)
x=2−2±4+252
x=2(−2±16)
x=7 or −9
