Definite Article
In Spanish there are 4 ways to say "the"
The is a definite article, this means we are talking about someone or something specific. It is "defined" for us.
If the noun is plural so is the definite article
In Spanish all nouns have a gender; masculine or feminine
If a noun ends in an -e or a consonant, one has to memorize its gender.

Modelo:
El chico
Los chicos
La chica
Las chicas
El hombre
La mujer
Cultural Note: Remember as long as the group of creatures has at least one male member, the masculine plural article is used. Thus, “los gatos” could refer to a group of 10 male cats, or it could refer to a group of 9 female cats and one male cat.
