Linear Functions Test Reveiw

Remember slope is the same as rate of change

Look for how the y-values are changing and how the x-values are changing.

Slope is always written as

The change in y-values is shown vertically on the graph (RISE).

The change in x-values is shown horizontally on the graph (RUN).

Like before, write the slope as

To find the change in y and change in x you can subtract.

The formula for slope is

 $y=mx+b$  

m is the slope (rise/run)

b is the y-intercept (look on y-axis)

 $y=mx+b$  

m is the slope, use the formula if needed.

b is the y-intercept, written as (0,b)

Write the equation with a slope of -4 and the point (2, -3).

 $y\ -\ -\ 3=-4\left(x-2\right)$  

Simplify to  $y+3=-4\left(x-2\right)$  

If you want to convert to slope intercept form, distribute then solve for y.

 $y+3=-4x+8$  then subtract 3 from both sides

 $y=-4x+5$
