Air conditioners require lots of energy to function properly. It consumes so much electricity and therefore releases pollution. When fossil fuel is burned, carbon dioxide is also released into the air, more commonly known as a greenhouse gas, which is a major contribution to ozone depletion.

Food/drinks residue is a form of contamination because when left on containers cannot be reliably processed.

By not washing your bottles/cans before sending to the recycling bin, you are risking the item being sent to landfill instead.

When you donate your clothes, you are saving the environment from a lot of harm. It costs S$60 on average per ton to dispose of waste in a landfill. Clothing that sits in landfill releases toxic greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the environment when they break down.

A high efficiency washer may use less than half the amount of water of a conventional top loader. While a top loader can use as much as 204L of water, the most efficient machines use only 26L.

Collecting rainwater for later use, or diverting it so that it does not become wastewater, is a very effective and easy way to conserve water. A typical household can reduce their consumption of treated water from mains by between 30 and 50% by harvesting rainwater.

Single-use containers used for takeaway food represent a significant source of waste and environmental impacts due to their low recyclability. 

Recycling plastic bags often costs more than it is worth and so, many recycling facilities will not take them, meaning they end up in landfills.

Investing in reusable bags, either canvas or hard plastic will minimise the number of disposable bags that end up in landfills across the country.

Leaving electrical appliances plugged in and charging while you sleep through the night means you'll be paying for electricity that's literally doing nothing. The simple solution is to turn most devices off at the plug socket, or unplug them altogether.
