Inequalities with Number Lines

Numbers to the LEFT of zero are always negative

Numbers to the RIGHT of zero are always positive

The farther away from zero a number is to the LEFT, the LESS value it has so -9 < -4 because -9 is FARTHER AWAY from zero

The closer to zero a number is on the LEFT, the GREATER value it has so -2 > -6 because -2 is closer to zero

The FIRST number in a LESS THAN inequality will always be located to the LEFT of the second number on a number line

For example, -7 < 4 shows that -7 will be to the left

The FIRST number in a GREATER THAN inequality will always be located to the RIGHT of the second number on a number line

For example, 12 > 5 shows that 12 will be to the right
