Halloween Around the World
Halloween is a fun fall holiday celebrated in several countries around the world. In America, it is celebrated with children and adults dressing up in scary costumes. Children enjoy trick-or-treating for candy in their neighborhood, going to costume parties and playing games. One Halloween game they enjoy is bobbing for apples, which involves a tub of water with their mouths. Though Halloween is very popular in America, it actually originated a long time ago in Ireland.

Some Irish Halloween celebrations are similar to American traditions, while others differ. Children still dress up in costumes and trick-or-treat, but they do not just bob for apples. Instead, they play "snap-apple". In this game, an apple is hung from a string, and children take turns jumping up and seeing who can bite into it first! They also have fruitcakes called "barnbracks" that have special treats baked inside for people to find. Whether you're bobbing or jumping for apples, it's clear to see that Halloween is a lively holiday enjoyed by many people all over the world.
