Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. The water you drink, the air you breathe, and you are all made up of matter.

Physical Properties
A property is a characteristic that you can observe. Scientists describe matter by its properties. Physical properties can be observed or measured without changing what matter is made of. Color, Texture, and size are three of the many physical properties of matter.

Vocabulary
Mass: is the amount of matter in an object. All matter is made of tiny particles.
Weight: is how strongly gravity pulls on an object. If an object has more mass, it also has more weight.
Volume: The amount of space an object takes up. Volume describes how large or small an object is.
Density: is a measure of how closely packed an object's particles are.
