Indices

1. Product :  $a^m\times a^n=a^{m+n}$        E.g :  $3^2\times3^4=3^{6\ }=729$  
2. Division :  $a^m\div a^n=a^{m-n}$        E.g:  $3^4\div3^2=3^2=9$  
3. Power raised to another :  $\left(a^m\right)^n=a^{m\times n}$   E.g :  $\left(a^2\right)^3=3^6$  
4. Negative power :  $a^{-m}=\frac{1}{a^m}$       E.g:  $2^{-3}=\frac{1}{2^3}$  
5. Fractional power:  $a^{\frac{n}{m}}=^m\sqrt{a^n}$    E.g:  $16^{\frac{4}{2}}=^2\sqrt{16^4}=256$  
6. Zero Power:  $a^0=1\$                       E.g:  $7^0=1$  
7. Fraction with a negative power:  $\left(\frac{a}{b}\right)^{-m}=\left(\frac{b}{a}\right)^m$                                                                                E.g:  $\left(\frac{1}{8}\right)^{-2}=\left(\frac{8}{1}\right)^2=64$  

TYPE 1
Eg:1   $4^{x\ }=0.5$      Eg:2  $2^{x^2+x}=4$              Eg:3  $7^{x^2-4}-1=0$  

TYPE 2                                      Eg:1 Solve:  $3^{2x}-12\left(3^x\right)+27=0$  
Note (l3):                                          $\left(3^x\right)^2-12\left(3^x\right)+27=0$                      
 $5^{2x}=\left(5^2\right)^x\ \&\ \left(5^x\right)^2$                     Let   $3^x=y$                                                                                       $y^2-12y+27=0$ (fact.)                                                                       $\left(y-9\right)\left(y-3\right)=0\ \therefore y=9\ or\ 3$                                                               $When\ y\ =9\ \ \ \ \ \ \$        $When\ y\ =3$                                                                    $3^x=9$                            $3^x=3$                                                                   $3^x=3^2$                          $3^x=3^1$                                                $same\ base$     $\therefore x=2$                $\therefore x=1$

TYPE 4
Eg:1  $3^x=4-3\left(3^{-x}\right)$                         $y=3$          $y=1$

Eg:1  $x^4-13x^2+36=0$                        $x^2=9$                  $x^2=4$
