Volcanic eruptions
The very plate tectonics associated with producing Costa Rica’s earthquakes form a line of over 112 volcanoes ranging from entirely dormant to emitting constant eruptions.
Right now our active volcanoes are:
Turrialba, Poás, Irazú and Rincón de la Vieja.

Flooding
Flooding is usual through the rainy season in some regions of Costa Rica. On top of the generalized flooding of lower lands and particularly near the few large rivers of the country.
These can happen any time since the high mountains are moderately wet even in the sunny season. Nevertheless, they are quite usual in the rainy season when downpours saturate the ground.

Earthquakes
Earthquakes are a potential threat and tremors are felt occasionally. On 21 August 2018 Trinidad and Tobago experienced an earthquake in excess of magnitude 6.7 causing damage to some buildings and communication networks.

Hurricanes
The Caribbean hurricane season normally runs from June to November. Trinidad and Tobago is affected by hurricanes and can experience storm conditions.
There are records of 10 major storms and hurricanes which have affected Trinidad and Tobago, either directly or indirectly, within the past century.

Seismic (Volcanic) activity
The alert level of the underwater volcano "Kick'em Jenny", located 5 miles off the coast of Granada, must be monitored.
Tourists should observe the maritime exclusion zones and follow the advice of local authorities in the event of increased activity or eruption.
