Unit cost is important when you are wanting to buy the better deal.

I can buy an 8 pack of batteries for $36 or a 5 pack of batteries for $21.25. Which is the better deal?

 $\frac{36}{8}=\ \text{4.50}$  
 $\frac{21.25}{5}=\ 4.25$  

 $\frac{21}{12}\ =\ 1.75$  

 $\frac{37.50}{15}=2.50$  

 $\frac{25.20}{24}=\ 1.05$  

 $\frac{27.72}{28}=0.99$
