In Latin, the ending of the verb tells us the subject

-ō or -m = I

-s = you

-t = he/she/it

Laboro. = Ego laboro. = I work./I am working.

Dormis. = Tu dormis. = You sleep./You are sleeping.

Intrat. = He/she/it enters./He/she/it is entering.

Pater intrat. = The father enters./The father is entering.

What is a linking/being verb?

Simple in English: is/are/was/were/am/be/been

Links a noun or pronoun to a word that "modifies" or explains it

That word might be an adjective (like "clamosa" - "loud") or it might be another noun (like "mendax" - "liar")

Subura est clamosa. = The Subura is loud.

Sabina est mendax. Sabina is a liar.

sum = I am, am.......................................Sum Sabina = I am Sabina.

es = you are, are....................................Tu es mendax. = You are a liar.

est = he/she/it, is/there is.................Est clamosa. = It is loud.
