HOLY PLACES IN INDIA

Introduction

India is a secular country and there are many religions. We have very beautiful and peaceful places for worship. All religions have their own rules and ways of worshiping. Everyone has a different Deity/ God and they pray differently. There are different sacred books like Gita and Ramayana for Hindus, Bible for Christians, Guru Granth Sahib for Sikhs, and Quran for Muslims. We must respect each religion and its rituals also. We should not criticize nor disrespect the sacred values of any religion.

Mahabodhi Temple

This temple is located in Bodh Gaya, Patna, Bihar. It is UNESCO World Heritage Site and it marks the location where the Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment. Siddhartha Gautama was the historical founder of Buddhism.

Basilica of Bom

• It is a church located in Old Goa.

• It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

• It is home to the tomb and mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier.

What are UNESCO Worlds Heritage Site?

• UNESCO is United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

• These sites are preserved and funded by UNESCO.

• These places are extremely beautiful, outstanding, and are of universal value to humanity.

• These sites which have been recognized by UNESCO have to be preserved for future generation.

• Special Protection is given during war.

Badrinath Temple

This temple is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. This temple is devoted to lord Vishnu.

Kedarnath Temple

It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is also located in Uttarakhand. This temple is here since ancient times and no one knows who built it.

Amarnath

Amarnath cave is a Hindu shrine located in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The cave is surrounded by snowy mountains and the cave itself is covered with snow most of the year except for a short period of time in summer.

Jagannath Temple

The shree Jagannath Temple of Puri is an important Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of lord Vishnu. It is located in Puri, Odissha.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

It is one of the famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It has been destroyed by foreign invaders number of times and reconstructed.

Vaishno Devi Mandir

It is a Hindu temple located in Katra at the Trikuta Mountains within the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The temple is a treck of 13Kms from the base camp of Katra to bhavan and various modes like Pony, Helicopter and ropeway are now available for the ease of devotees.

Shirdi

Shirdi is the abode of the revered fakir Shri Satchidanand Satguru Sainath Maharaj, also known as Shirdi Sai. It is in Maharashtra. He believed that there is only “One God”. A visit to Shirdi is more of a spiritual journey than a religious one. It is visited by people of different religions.

Banke Bihari Temple

The famous temple is located in Vrindavan where Lord Krishna is said to have spent his entire childhood. The curtain in front of Lord Krishna is opened and closed every few minutes for his darshan.

Golden Temple

This temple is also known as Harmandir Sahib, which means 'abode of God'. It is located in Amritsar, Punjab.

Siddhi Vinayak Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shri Ganesha. It is located in Mumbai, Capital city of Maharashtra.
