Introduction to Relations and Functions

Please write down the following vocabulary words in your notebook. Fill in the definitions as you follow along with the presentation. You may also want to write down the examples of each.

Relation

A Relation can be represented in 3 different forms -

Ex. The domain of this relation

{(5,-2), (8,9), (2, -1), (-4, -2)}

If there are ever two of the same number in the relation, we only list the number ONCE.

Ex. {(2,3), (-1, -1), (2,7)}

The domain is {2,-1}; we only list the 2 ONCE.

If there are ever two of the same number, we only list the number ONCE.

Ex. {(2,3), (-1, 3), (2,7)}

The range is {3,7}: we only list the 3 ONCE.
