What are Janapadas ?
The small tribes of the earlier period gave away to large kingdoms called Janapadas. The word ‘Janapadas’ literally means ‘the place where people put their feet’ . The period was from 600 BCE to 400 BCE

What are the Mahajanapadas ?
The Vedic , Buddhist an the Jainism text are the very important sources of information for this period . There were the sixteen mahajanapadas in the Ganga valley in the sixth century BCE . They were named after the ruling or the most important tribe in the area.

The Trade
The Trade got boost in this period because of the introduction of coinage . Coins of Gold and Silver with designs punched on them, came to be used as a medium of exchange.
