Dead Giveaways

Dead Giveaways are types of sentences that are TERRIBLE! When we see them as an answer choice, it’s a dead giveaway that it’s the WRONG answer!!!

Throwaway writing is when you TELL your reader your plan instead of showing them.

Examples:

Hi. My name is Ms. Owens and I will be writing about Australia.

Well, that's the end of my paper.

Next, I am going to talk about Kangaroos.

Vagueness is NOT SPECIFIC. It usually leaves your reader with questions. Huh??????

Examples:

I like to do a lot of stuff.

There was something wrong with the guy.

A lot of things are fun.

Some sentences have words in weird order. Usually when you read them aloud you realize that it is WeIrD.

Examples:

Because you would like to try something that is not very normal, get a hedgehog.

Mad this guy walking was.

Repetition is when the same words or phrases are REPEATED in a sentence.
